Trisha Garlock Announces Retirement Plans

Kiddo! Founder and Executive Director Announces Retirement Plans

Trisha Garlock, co-founder and executive director of Kiddo! for the past 31 years, has announced her plans to retire within the next 12-15 months.  Garlock made her decision public in an email to Mill Valley School District parents and teachers.

“I have been thinking about retirement for the past few years and with our strong leadership team, the passage of Measure B and the conclusion of our most successful annual campaign yet, the time is now right for me personally, and for Kiddo! as an organization, to welcome an energetic new executive director,” explained Garlock. “I am not leaving tomorrow, and intend to stay until a new director is selected and transitioned into the job.”

Trisha Garlock and co-founder Penny Weiss launched Kiddo! in 1982 to save arts programs that faced elimination due to cuts in school funding brought on by Proposition 13.  Kiddo! now raises nearly $3 million annually and funds the arts, technology support, library and classroom aides and half of district P.E. costs.

“While we are incredibly sad to think of Trisha leaving us, with change comes opportunities,” said Kira Keane, chair of the Kiddo! Board of Directors. “Kiddo! is in a great position to continue the wonderful legacy Trisha has established. We have an incredibly dedicated board, talented and committed staff, legions of excellent volunteers and a community that overwhelmingly supports our public schools,” said Keane.

The Kiddo! Board has appointed a Transition Committee, which will be responsible for soliciting and interviewing applicants, and ultimately recommending a candidate for the board to approve.  Click here for a summary of the position and application requirements.  Click here for a full job description.Additional inquiries can be sent to kiddo.ed.apply@gmail.com.
