Kiddo! Board of Directors 2014-15

Bill Lampl ~ Executive Director

Bill Lampl has lived in Mill Valley since 1997. His twenty five years of business experience include executive management, brand and licensing development, operations, sales, marketing, merchandising and product development and business strategy. Bill has also been an elementary, middle, and high school substitute teacher in Marin. Bill currently serves on the City of Mill Valley Library Board of Trustees. His commitment to our community includes having been a member of the following: VP Fundraising, Mill Valley Middle School PTSA Executive Board; Scholarship Director, Southern Marin Youth Football Board of Directors; Manager, Mill Valley Little League; Coach, Mt. Carmel CYO Basketball; Coach, Mill Valley Soccer Club; Executive Board Member, Tam High Foundation; and Member, Tam High Grants Committee. When he’s not working, Bill enjoys cooking, listening to music, and hiking with his family which includes his wife, Kathleen Clifford, and his two children, Lauren and Benjamin.

Deborah Freed Goldman ~ Chair

Born and raised in Marin County, Deborah graduated Redwood High School, studied at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico, has a B.A. in Political Economy from U.C. Berkeley and an MBA in Marketing and Finance from the University of Southern California. She’s worked in finance and marketing in banking and consumer products for over 20 years. Her Oro Puro Vineyards wine business just celebrated its 10th anniversary. She’s been President and Chair of the Mother’s Club, President of the elementary and middle school PTA’s and a Board Member at Kiddo! for over 10 years. She currently serves on the Tam High Foundation Board, MVMS PTSA and as Kiddo! Chair. Her three children have all attended Mill Valley public schools since Kindergarten.

Jackie Broad ~ Vice Chair

Jackie is a financial analyst, children’s book author, and education advocate. Jackie graduated from Colgate University with a B.A. in Mathematical Economics and later received her MBA in Marketing from NYU’s Stern School of Business. Her early career in the retail and apparel industry, working for iconic brands such as Levi Strauss and Co. and Gap Inc., is where Jackie developed and honed her strategic planning, merchandising, data analysis, and reporting skills. Later, after starting her family, Jackie was inspired by her children’s antics to write and eventually launch the publishing company, Three Puppies Press, home to award winning (and fun!) picture books. Jackie’s interest in supporting education excellence for kids led to her role as an advisor for the Bay Area Discovery Museum’s Center for Childhood Creativity and as a part-time Math Instructor at Mathnasium. Since 2007, Jackie has been an active member of the Kiddo! board and is proud to be associated with an organization that has made such a positive impact on children and education for the past 30+ years. Jackie and her husband, Ken, have three children in the Mill Valley public schools.

Kira Sturney Keane ~ Endowment Chair/Past Chair

Kira has more than 20 years of experience in communications and public affairs consulting. Her clients have included Fortune 500 companies, Internet start-ups and several major municipal agencies. Kira is currently a partner at The Learning Accelerator, a non-profit dedicated to bringing blended learning to schools across America. Active in her community, Kira currently serves as Past Chair for Kiddo! after completing her positions as Board Chair and Communications Chair. She has also served as Campaign Communications Chair for several public school tax measures and provides pro-bono communications advice for the Mill Valley Public Library and the Redwoods Retirement Community. Kira earned a B.A. in International Relations from Stanford University and currently lives in Mill Valley, CA with her husband and three children.

Julie Yee Carlucci ~ Secretary

Julie brings over 15 years of global marketing and general management experience to the Kiddo! Board. Prior to becoming a full-time mother of two girls, Julie held executive marketing positions for Fortune 100 consumer package goods companies after graduating from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. She specializes in new product development in both domestic and international markets and has worked in venture-funded as well as non-profit startups. Since moving from Chicago in 2008, Julie has served in various positions on Strawberry Point School’s PTA executive board and looks forward to further contributing to the amazing Mill Valley community by serving on the Kiddo! Board.

Gretchen Boyle ~ Treasurer/Finance Committee Chair

Gretchen has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. She worked in the Banking and Securities Group at a Big 4 Accounting Firm for eight years where her clients included many Fortune 500 companies. She has been an active member of the community as a member of the Park School PTA Executive Board, including two years as the Treasurer, as well as serving on the Board for a public school tax measure. Gretchen earned a BA in International Relations at the University of Virginia and a CPA and currently resides in Mill Valley with her husband and three children.

Caitlin Weil Smith ~ Annual Campaign Chair

Seeking strong public schools and a close-knit community, Caitlin and her family moved to Mill Valley in 2004. After a 10 year career working her way up through the ranks of merchandising and marketing (where her passion for planning and spreadsheets was honed), Caitlin decided to stay home with her kids as well as volunteer as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) where she found great purpose advocating for foster children. A strong supporter of our public school system, Caitlin has volunteered for numerous projects and activities at Edna Maguire Elementary. Caitlin graduated from the University of Washington, where her passion for college football was sown, with a BA in English. She and her husband Jed have three children: Quinn (10), Annabel (8) and Lilah (5).

Beth Fogel ~ Communications Chair

Beth received a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan and a law degree from Northwestern University School of Law. She worked for eight years as a corporate attorney focusing on commercial and technology transactions, serving as in-house counsel for Hewlett-Packard and Extreme Networks. She is currently on the Park School PTA Executive Board, where she spent two years as VP of Communications. In that role she served as editor of Park’s weekly email newsletter and administrator of the Park School website. She also created the Park PTA webstore and serves as the PTA Online Volunteer Coordinator. Her daughter GG attends Park, and her son Alex attends MVMS.

Catherine Marhefka Somerville ~ School Reps Chair

Cathy has been an active volunteer in the Mill Valley School District since she, her husband and two children moved to Marin four years ago. Besides her role on for Kiddo!, she is chairing Strawberry Point’s Book Fair and Science Night, is the PTA Council EVP and is on the Board of the MVSC. Previously she was the PTA President, EVP, Jamboree Chair, Auction Chair and PTA Auditor at Strawberry Point. Before becoming a mom and school volunteer, Cathy worked in New York City for 8 years in the Investment Banking Industry at Bear Stearns and B of A, focusing primarily on mergers & acquisitions, capital raising, and high yield capital markets. She has an MBA from New York University and Bachelor’s degree from SDSU.

Jake Hobson ~ Business Chair

Jake leads major gifts for Tipping Point Community, a non-profit fighting poverty in the Bay Area.  Before joining Tipping Point in January 2014, Jake led Dartmouth College’s fundraising on the West Coast for more than six years.  He has more than 10 years experience working with non-profits, and before that worked in product management and business development in Bay Area software companies.  Jake is a graduate of Dartmouth College with a degree is Studio Art.  He is originally from Long Beach, CA but has been in the Bay Area for 18 years and in Mill Valley for almost 10 years and wouldn’t think of moving back to Southern California.  He has two children at Edna Maguire School and coaches them in both the Mill Valley Soccer Club and Mill Valley Little League.

Ingrid Tolson ~ Events Chair

After graduating from Boston University with a BA in Operations Management, Ingrid worked in the in the Retail Buying Offices of Macy’s, J. Crew, and Sephora. She was a founding member of a Hadassah Chapter in San Francisco, on the Discovery Council for 4 years, on the Parent Board of Marin Day School and Endorsement Chair on the most recent public school tax measure. She served as PTA President of Old Mill Elementary School and was actively involved in Safe Routes to School and the Lapathon (Old Mill Elementary’s primary fundraiser) for many years. She is currently Event Chair of Kiddo!, Treasurer of the PTA Council, and Committee Chair for Mill Valley Cub Scouts Pack 1. She and her husband have lived in Mill Valley for over 10 years with their 2 sets of twin boys.

Noel Murphy ~ Investment Committee Chair

Noel is a principal with DTS Group, a comprehensive financial advisory firm to high net worth clients in Mill Valley. He has more than 20 years experience in the capital markets with a focus on investment & wealth management. He was a principal and vice president at Montgomery Securities and Thomas Weisel Partners. He started his career at Deloitte and is licensed as a CPA He received his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of San Francisco in Business Administration and Accounting in 1990. He has served on the Board of the Little School of Mill Valley & Tiburon. He has been on the Kiddo! Investment Committee since 2007 and its Chair since 2011. He serves in a similar capacity as Chair of the Investment Committee for the Mill Valley Library Foundation. Noel grew up in San Francisco and has been a Commissioner and Deputy of the Olympic Club. As an athletic member, he competed for the Olympic Club in road & track cycling. Noel and his wife Sonya have a daughter at Mill Valley Middle School and a son at Tam Valley.

Sharon Kramlich ~ Phonathon Chair

Sharon and her husband Rix have lived in Mill Valley since 2000 and have 3 children who currently all attend Old Mill School.  Since 1993 she has been a professional real estate agent with Pacific Union International.  As an advocate of quality education, Sharon has been an active participant and leader to affect growth and change.  When living in San Francisco, she sat on the San Francisco Art Institute Council and was the chair of two of the school’s largest and most profitable fundraising events to date.  In Mill Valley, she spent two years on the Tamalpais Preschool Board of Trustees and currently holds a role on the Old Mill School PTA.  She is a frequent in-school volunteer and has been an active supporter and business sponsor of Kiddo!  Sharon studied at the University of East Anglia and is a native of Norwich, England.

Lori Luc Faillace ~ Arts Co-Chair

Lori grew up in Santa Barbara, California and has Bachelor’s Degrees in Communications and Foreign Languages from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. She also has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the School of Visual Arts in New York. She worked in the Technology Industry for over fifteen years producing events ranging from small high-end executive seminars to large conferences and expositions. Lori worked for Seybold Seminars and went on to consult for Apple and Microsoft. In addition to corporate events, she’s worked with arts advocacy groups through the years with stints at Gen Art and California Lawyers for the Arts bringing arts programs to at risk youth. Lori has been an active volunteer at Park School and chaired the PTA Art Show for five years. She is happy to combine her logistical skills with her passion for art as the Kiddo! Arts Co-Chair. Lori and her husband Greg have one daughter, Bella, who went to Park Elementary School and will attend Mill Valley Middle School in the fall.

Susan Barrett Weinswig ~ Audit Chair

Sue has over 25 years of accounting and finance experience. She has a BS in Accounting from Skidmore College and is a CPA. Sue worked at KPMG and in Corporate Treasury at Michigan National Bank and JP Morgan Chase in Chicago. Sue has been an active volunteer in her three children’s schools for 10 years. Since moving to Mill Valley 6 years ago, Sue has been the Treasurer of the Old Mill PTA, Financial Secretary for the MVMS PTSA, and will start her third year as the Treasurer of the Tam High Foundation and will also be the Auditor for MVMS PTSA. She was the MVMS Representative for Kiddo! several years ago and is honored to be returning to the Kiddo! Board. Sue and her husband Steve feel fortunate to live in a community that is that is rich in the arts and puts the education of children first. Thanks to Kiddo! their three children, Ben(16), Emma (14), and Grace (11) have had the opportunity to sing, dance, and act. They have developed a passion for the performing arts and most importantly they have gained confidence that will be invaluable as they grow.

Christopher Reid ~ Technology Chair

Chris was born and raised in Marin County and received a B.S from UC Davis in Computer Science. His whole career has been spent in the IT industry, mostly with consulting companies support business use of technology. Since 2001 Chris has led Verus Technology Solutions, an IT consulting company based in San Rafael serving Bay Area small businesses. Since 2007 Chris has supported Kiddo with their internal technology needs. Chris and his wife Laura have lived in Mill Valley since 1996, and their two children, Ashley and Teo, have attended Mill Valley public schools since kindergarten.

Holly Nissalke ~ Tam Valley School Kiddo! Representative

For over 20 years Holly has held executive marketing positions with both technology and publishing companies. During the last six years, she has worked part time developing marketing, sales development and core audience strategies for a group of advertising agencies, technology start-ups and editorial outlets. She and her husband Patrick have two daughters, Caroline who is in first grade at TV and Bella who is in preschool. When she isn’t hanging out with her family or working, you can find her watching shameful reality TV.

Ted Chin ~ Old Mill School Kiddo! Representative

A native of Marin County, Ted Chin went to public schools for most of his life. He graduated with honors from U.C. Berkeley, and received his MBA from the Haas School of Business, the University of California Berkeley. After working in sales and trading at a major Investment Bank following college, Ted founded a registered investment advisory firm, where he works today. He is also on the advisory board of several small start-ups. Ted was exposed to art from a young age by his mother, a Professor of Art History at Dominican University, and is a strong advocate for art in the school curriculum .Ted and his wife, Jackie, live in Mill Valley. They have two children, ages 6 and 8, who keep him very physically active.

Ahtossa Fullerton ~ Edna Maguire School Kiddo! Representative

Ahtossa is a partner in the law firm of Wasacz Hilley & Fullerton LLP, representing both parents and children in the foster care system in San Francisco and Marin counties. She attended undergraduate at UC Davis and received graduate degrees in law and business from Santa Clara University. She has volunteered for a number of organizations over the years and currently serves as President of Marin County Women Lawyers, as Parliamentarian of the Edna Maguire PTA and as a mediator with the San Francisco Office of Citizen Complaints (mediating between complainants and members of the SFPD). Ahtossa is a Bay Area native and has lived in Mill Valley for six years with her husband, Rick, and 3 kids.

Nicole Kennedy~ Park School Kiddo! Representative

After graduating from Fairfield University with an undergraduate degree in psychology Nicole spent several years working in the Executive Offices of American Express Company and in Human Resources with Deloitte and Touche. She then earned a masters degree in counseling at Fairfield University and worked as a Middle School Counselor in Roslyn, Long Island. Nicole and her husband, Joe, moved to Mill Valley in 2009 with their four children, two of which attend Park School, one Mill Valley Middle School and one Tam High. Nicole has enjoyed volunteering in the Mill Valley School District and community.

Alexandra Norris~ Strawberry Point School Kiddo! Representative

Alex hails from Toronto and has a B.A. in Political Science. She worked in advertising primarily on consumer package goods and then the soda & beer industries. Looking for a change from advertising, Alex moved to Boston where she met her husband, Philip. Alex holds an MBA from Boston University’s Graduate School of Management, and was Marketing Director for Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. She moved to Mill Valley ten years ago and became a full time stay at home mother of three girls. Alex is very involved at her church, St. Stephen’s, where she can be seen sometimes teaching Sunday school or serving with her connections team. Alex has been very involved at Strawberry Point School, being Auction Chair, EVP, and PTA President (2013-14). She is also coming on the MVMS PTSA Executive Board for 2014-15. Alex and Philip have one daughter at MVMS and two daughters at Strawberry Point School.

Tinsley Hutson-Wiley~ Middle School Kiddo! Representative

Tinsley received her BA in systems engineering and environmental science from the University of Virginia and then worked in technical education for a consulting firm in Washington D.C. where she taught software classes and managed classrooms for the EPA. After moving to San Francisco, she became the regional director of technical education for a large software company, where she honed her management, presentation, and sales skills. She later pursued an interior design and architecture degree at the Academy of Art University and opened her design firm in 2007. She has served as a Kiddo! Ambassador at Strawberry Point School and been an active volunteer in her children’s classrooms. She also serves as an advocate for Raphael House, a shelter for families in need. Tinsley and her husband, Thomas, currently reside in Mill Valley with their daughter and son.

Zandra Marulanda~  K- 2nd  Kiddo! Teacher Representative

Zandra Marulanda began her career in the Mill Valley School District first working as an aide, student teacher and substitute teacher.  In 2010 she was hired as a classroom teacher and has enjoyed teaching both the first and second grades.  Zandra received her Masters in Education from Dominican University in San Rafael and completed her Bachelor’s degree at University of California Los Angeles.  Prior to teaching in Mill Valley she lived in Los Angeles and worked at Raytheon Supply Chain.  Zandra’s love for teaching and learning are enhanced through the quality enrichment and educational programs that Kiddo! provides. She feels incredibly fortunate to work in a community that provides access to arts, technology and other programs that inspire a love for learning and creativity. She will be teaching first grade at Tam Valley School in the 2014-2015 school year.

Catherine Patler ~ 3rd- 5th Kiddo! Teacher Representative

Catherine Patler has lived in Mill Valley with her family since 1987. Her 5 children attended Mill Valley Schools and Tam High School. During that time, she volunteered in classrooms and served as PTA President at MVMS and Tam High. Catherine was also honored to serve on several District and Marin County advisory boards. She served as a KIDDO School Rep and sat on the Kiddo Board as a Parent Rep. In 1999, Catherine returned to teaching as a 5th Grade Teacher at Tam Valley School. She is currently the KIDDO 3-5 Teacher Rep. As a parent, Catherine loved the enriching experiences her children received in the Arts due to KIDDO! As a teacher, she appreciates the way Arts education enhances her students’ learning and love of school. Outside of work, Catherine loves to travel and keep in touch with her ever growing family (2 grandchildren now and planning a wedding for May 2014!).

Nance Miller~ Middle School Kiddo! Teacher Representative

Nance Miller has been living in Mill Valley since 1994.  Her two children were raised here and attended public schools in the Mill Valley School District (MVSD).  Nance has been working in the MVSD since 1996.  She has taught at the Elementary level, Special Education, and Art.  Currently, Nance is the 7th grade Core Teacher at Mill Valley Middle School.  Both as a parent, and as a teacher, Nance has personally experienced what a wonderful gift KIDDO! is to the community.

Michelle Connolly~  Volunteer Coordinator

A California native, Michelle has a degree in Business Administration from CSUF.  She spent many years working in San Francisco for Macy’s and Gap Inc. in visual merchandising and management.  In 2003 she and her husband moved to Montreal, Quebec where her daughter Keira was born.  The family then moved to New Jersey where Michelle was active in the PTA and room mother of her daughters class.  In 2011 they  relocated back to Mill Valley where Keira finished kindergarten at Strawberry Point School.  Michelle is a Kiddo ambassador as well as an active volunteer in the classroom, art, library and playground choices.  She is also the Co-Chair of the Hospitality Committee, which is a great outlet for her love of cooking and entertaining.  She is honored to be a part of an organization that makes Mill Valley Schools a wonderful, enriching place for our children to grow up.
